Noble Elementary-Middle School Celebrates New Bike Racks with Ribbon Cutting
By Major Taylor Michigan · October 19, 2026
Noble Elementary-Middle School now has 15 brand-new bike racks, thanks to Major Taylor Michigan Cycling Advocacy. The donation and installation of the bike racks was part of Major Taylor’s “Operation: Rack and Roll” program, which aims to reduce transportation insecurity in Detroit by providing bike racks to schools.
The ribbon cutting for the bike racks was held on October 15, 2026, and it was a tremendous success.
About 150 students joined us to celebrate the new bike racks. We were also joined by Principal William Jackson; DPSCD Deputy Superintendent Alycia Meriweather; representatives of Dero, the bike rack manufacturer, who came all the way from Minneapolis; and representatives from numerous Detroit nonprofits, including United Way.
The 15 custom racks give students 30 safe places to park their bikes. The purpose is to help reduce chronic school absenteeism in Detroit Public Schools by activating the Joe Louis Greenway as a safe route to school. Students who ride now have a secure place to park when they arrive.
WXYZ 7 News covered the event. You can watch the story here.
Major Taylor Michigan Cycling Advocacy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that exists to reduce transportation insecurity in Detroit. Our programs teach children to ride, help young people earn their own bikes, provide riding and safety education, and bring students together for rides to school led by trained adults. We also help working adults access bicycles for their commute. Together, these efforts make cycling a practical way to get to school and work, and a sport people can enjoy throughout their lives.
Operation: Rack and Roll is one part of that mission. Learning to ride and having a bike are important steps, but students also need somewhere to lock up when they reach school. Our goal is to bring bike racks to every DPSCD school along the Joe Louis Greenway, helping more students make that trip with confidence.
Your support helps make this work possible. Donate today to help provide bikes, safe places to park, and riding and safety education for more Detroit students.
