Bike Bus

A bike can get a kid to school. Riding together helps them start.

Bike Bus brings kids and trained adult ride leaders together for group rides to school, helping students build toward riding the route themselves.

Bike Bus

The ride to school starts with people to ride with.

Getting to school is one part of being able to attend. In 2024–25, 61% of DPSCD students were chronically absent. For a student with a bike, learning the route and having someone to ride with can make the first trips easier to take. A group ride gives kids a way to begin together while they work toward making the trip on their own.

Bike Bus brings children and trained adult ride leaders together for the trip to school. Adults chaperone the rides once or twice a week at first. The aim is for students to learn the route and eventually ride it themselves. Your support pays for the route program that helps kids put their bikes and riding skills to use. School becomes a place they can pedal to with other riders from their neighborhood.

Put the bike to use for school

Bike Bus brings riding skills and bike ownership into the school day. Operation Rack & Roll provides a place to park, and trained adult ride leaders help students begin the trip together.

How Bike Bus works

Ride with a group

Kids travel to school together on a set route, with trained adult ride leaders chaperoning the group.

Join along the way

The group picks up riders at stops along the route, bringing more kids into the ride to school.

Start with adult leaders

Trained adults chaperone rides once or twice a week at first, giving students company as they learn the route.

Build toward riding independently

The goal is for kids to learn the route and eventually make the ride to school themselves.

Your gift supports a school route with trained adult ride leaders, helping kids work toward riding it themselves.
